Hansa Bergwall

Meet Hansa Bergwall, Founder of WeCroak, Marketing and Communications Expert, and Meditation Nerd.

Hansa specializes in story and relationship driven communications and marketing. Whether in managing influencer programs, media relations initiatives or digital ad campaigns, he looks for the stories that will grab people’s attention through the conduits they will trust.

We’ll talk about why he calls the Marketing and Communications industry “the dark arts” and how people underestimate the powerful influence they exert on behavior, trends and experience. This includes PR, influencer marketing and paid ads.

I’m obsessed with his app WeCroak which uses those “dark arts” for good and giving people a tool to choose for themselves. It also happens to be super sharable and has taken on a life of it’s own, which is something everyone should think about with the content they produce.

WeCroak is inspired by a Bhutanese premise that happiness comes from contemplating death five times a day.

Technically: You download the app and get push notifications reminding you of your mortality and a quote about death from a poet, philosopher, or notable thinker.

Philosophically: This is an invitation to contemplate your mortality, “let go of the things that don’t matter and honor the things that do.”

The paid version has “Leap” challenges that go deeper into the impermanence of life so that you can live better lives today. It’s been featured in The Atlantic, New York Times, The Times (UK), SF Gate, Vox, CNN, and so many more.

Hansa prioritizes surrounding himself with amazing people to learn from whether it’s casually grabbing a bite to eat or working with stellar professionals marketing the ideas and products that change the game.

We’ll also discuss rethinking mission statements. Are they effective anymore? Or have they become as the kids say “cringe”? He argues that if you really have a great mission, you should show people so they see your mission in action through your work. Too often tech giants have not lived up to their mission statements and they have lost their luster. Don’t just slap it on a website and hope it lands. Similarly, he makes connections to hustle culture and the rise in zombie content.

Hansa credits his success to mindfulness and surrounding himself with amazing people to learn from, whether it’s casually grabbing a bite to eat with friends or working with stellar professionals marketing the ideas and products that change the game. More often than not, it is the small things in life with that make the biggest impact.

Other topics to be discussed include how we can use meditation to shift our perspective on death and how his latest app for Social Stomach is using social eating to tackle a pandemic of isolation. It was launched during the pandemic but I think is poised to really take off!
