Podcasts And Playlists As Marketing

Playlists and podcasts are one of the most effective ways to generate buzz for your book, business, or professional services.

Just as your website runs around the clock showcasing what you do, a guest spot on a podcast showcases your VOICE and a playlist showcases your TASTE.

You don’t even have to host a podcast. There’s an entire industry of people booking engaging guests on podcasts to share insightful stories and expertise with established audiences.

Once you’ve built up a fair amount of guest spots, I often turn to Spotify to build a playlist as a portfolio and link it in the top menu of a website.

Create a Playlist

Think of it as your press reel in audio form that is searchable.

Create a public playlist on Spotify titled something like “Podcast Guest Appearances with [Your Name + Business]” and add each episode. No worries if an episode isn’t great. Just put the best ones on top!

In the playlist description, include a short line about what listeners can expect using keywords you naturally use in conversation when talking about your business. You can also create a logo/album cover in Canva or use a stock photo.

Once published, share the playlist link in your bio, newsletter, or on your website’s “Press” or “About” page. It’s a subtle but powerful credibility builder.

Embed Episodes on Your Website

Spotify makes it easy to embed full episodes or playlists.

If you already have a “Media” or “Press” section on your site, you can drop in a player with their code injection. Followers can click and listen directly without leaving your page.

Instead of sending people to the full 45-minute episode, link to a moment you share an insight, story, or takeaway to hook the audience.

Example:

“I joined so and so to talk about how founders can build systems that scale. Here’s one takeaway if you have 30 seconds.”

Short clips make it easy for followers to engage without commitment of a full episode.

Stay Connected with Hosts

Follow the podcasts you’ve appeared on, like their episodes, and add them to playlists. Hosts see these playlists just like artists see your playlists — so keep it PG folks!

It’s a simple way to stay visible and maintain connection.

Keep It Updated!

Every time you’re featured on a new show, add it to your playlist and share a quick post directing people to your full list. It’s an effortless way to show momentum and remind people that you’re out there!
